About Mount Vernon Memorial Park Cemetery

A full-service, non-denominational cemetery that is open to the community.

Our Location

Our 10-acre cemetery was developed by Mount Vernon Baptist Church in 1997. From the beginning, our vision was to create a tranquil space set apart, where families could gather to remember and honor their loved ones.

We would be happy to meet with you to discuss your specific needs in more detail.

A Place to Honor our Loved Ones

We offer a variety of burial choices. Two gardens (Garden of Prayer and Garden of the Good Shepherd) accommodate flat bronze memorials. The Garden of Remembrance, designed to accommodate upright granite headstones, honors Mount Vernon family members whose graves were relocated from the church’s former site to the current Memorial Park site. The Garden of Devotion allows for a mix of upright and flat, granite and bronze memorials.

Rising from the heart of the Memorial Park, our mausoleum chapel is a monument to the dignity and memory of those who find their final resting place here. This monument provides an option for full casket, above-ground burial.

We also have options for in-ground and above-ground burial of cremated remains.

An Assurance of Trust

We realize that unfortunate circumstances may take loved ones at an early age. To ease the burden, Mount Vernon Memorial Park Cemetery provides a Child Memorial Plan for parents who have made prearrangements for themselves. Should a child under age 21 die, burial rights would be provided at no cost. In addition, should any law enforcement officer or fire-fighting personnel in the Richmond area die in the line of duty, Mount Vernon will offer the family a free space for burial.

We, like you, would rather not ponder death. It can be comforting to know that we and those we love will be memorialized with respect and dignity by people we trust. We invite you to consider the wisdom of advance planning. The advantages include lower costs, convenient terms, family participation and peace of mind. We are always available to help you with your cemetery arrangements.

    1. All memorials must be made of the highest quality standard bronze or of granite, and in colors approved by the Cemetery. The Cemetery shall have the authority to reject any memorial that, because of its size, type, design, inscription, quality, color or method of construction is unsuitable for the particular lot or grave on which it is to be placed. The Cemetery reserves the right to prevent the placing or to remove any marker or other objects that do not comply with the standards of the Cemetery.
    2. No marker or monument will be accepted by the Cemetery for installation, unless a sketch has been furnished defining the dimensions, material content and lettering and permission of the proper agent of the Interment Right Owner.

    1. Funeral flowers, holders, containers, baskets and easels will be removed between the third and fifth day after the funeral service.
    2. Live or artificial flowers should be placed in a vase in front of or beside the memorial/headstone. Each burial space will be limited to one vase per grave space.
    3. Glass, Ceramic or Plastic vases are not permitted. If you have difficulty finding an appropriate vase, please call the Memorial Park office and we will assist you.
    4. A total of two garden flags, no higher than 2 feet, are permitted and must be placed to the left or right side, or in front, and as close to the marker as possible. No flags or remembrances may be placed behind the marker, as it will encroach on burial space above.
    5. Items that cannot be placed inside the vase must be placed on the marker itself, and not on the grass. Damage to any decorative item is not the responsibility of the Memorial Park or its staff. Excessive items jeopardize the beauty of the cemetery and inhibit proper landscape practices and will be removed without prior notice.
    6. The Cemetery reserves the right to remove all flowers, wreaths or other decorations from lots as soon as they become unsightly, no matter the time of year. Spring cleanup begins March 1, and fall cleanup begins October 1.
In order for a family to save any decorations placed on a grave, the decoration should be removed prior to these dates.
    7. Plantings of live flowers or trees are not allowed at any time. This is done strictly by the Memorial Park Staff.
    8. Hanging baskets are not allowed at any time.
    9. Special Christmas arrangements and wreaths are permitted from December 1st to March 1st. The Memorial Park grounds crew will begin clean-up for spring on March 1st and all Christmas items will be removed without prior notice.
    10. Decorations should be confined to the individual burial space and should not intrude into the common area.
All decorations must be secured against strong winds, especially during the winter season.
    11. The Memorial Park will not be liable for any flower or decoration removed or lost by any cause.
    12. Larger special occasion wreaths and baskets for Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Veteran’s Day, etc. will be removed after 15 days.
    13. Floral arrangements, decorations, ornaments, lights or flags that become discolored, wilted, seasonally inappropriate or unsightly in any manner will be removed without prior notice.
    14. Small statues, ceramic ware, porcelain or figurines are not permitted.
    15. Trees are a part of the common areas; wind chimes or other decorations placed in trees will require prior approval by the Cemetery. Items will be subject to removal as necessary, and without prior notification.
